Dr. Shane Hawksworth, MD, FAANS, is a board-certified neurological surgeon and a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps. He has extensive experienced in general and minimally invasive neurosurgery, with a passion for treating tumors of the brain, spine and pituitary
He graduated with honors from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Hawksworth completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
During his residency, he received the Neurosurgery Resident Award after earning one of highest scores in the nation on the written American Board of Neurosurgery exam. He has received numerous additional accolades. Dr. Hawksworth received the Edward L. Spatz, MD, Award for Excellence in Neurosurgery in medical school. He placed first in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons SANS Resident Competition. He also received the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies Julius Goodman Resident Award for the top socioeconomic abstract at the 2014 Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting.
Dr. Hawksworth has written several peer-reviewed publications and has given multiple national and international research presentations. He is active in many professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons.
